The new academic year is upon us and I'd like to welcome everyone back!
Our President, Mohamad Tavakoli, has asked me to be the editor of the Iranian Studies blog and I'm looking forward to be in the position of reading and posting your short pieces in the coming year.
I see this collective blog and our individual uses of social media to comment on and repost entries made here, as an opportunity to counter the various forces-- both in the Americas and in Iran-- that have taken the Humanities to task and are slowly closing down fields and departments that are engaged in the critical study of culture, art, literature, religion, history and all other things human.
I will be approaching some of you for contributions to the Iranian Studies blog, but I would be even more delighted if you approached me with short pieces or ideas that you would like to publish on the blog.
In the meantime, a happy start to the school year! I look forward to our exchanges in the coming year.
You may contact me directly at negar@duke.edu to post anytime!
